After initially leveraging SkillCorner’s Physical Data to identify players with specific profiles and verifying its accuracy and effectiveness, Slovan Bratislava decided to extend the partnership to also include our Game Intelligence data.

The club, which prides itself on being a data trailblazer in Slovakia, had initially used our physical metrics to fine-tune their scouting process. The next natural step was to expand their use onto opposition scouting, using Game Intelligence metrics to analyse off-ball movement, decision-making, structures in different phases of play and additional aspects related to an opponent's tactical approach.

Upon extending the agreement with Slovan Bratislava, we sat down with sporting director Róbert Vittek to discuss the club’s decision to choose SkillCorner, the impact so far, and the club’s future vision.

Why was SkillCorner the club’s preferred choice?

It started with the physical side of recruitment. We wanted to be able to properly evaluate the physical qualities of players, and just as importantly, to actively search for players who meet our criteria. We compared a few providers, and the quality of the data decided it. And SkillCorner keeps innovating with new metrics and models, which we like.

Why did the club need to invest in data?

We have very good football people at Slovan, but experience alone isn't enough anymore. Data helps us test what we believe we're seeing. Sometimes it confirms it, sometimes it points us somewhere we hadn't looked. That matters most in Europe, where we face clubs with far greater resources than ours. We can't match their spending, so we have to make better decisions than them.

What impact is the data having on the club so far?

The biggest change is in scouting. SkillCorner lets us find players with the physical profile we're looking for, and that has sped up the whole process, because we know much earlier which players are worth our attention. And it's not only recruitment. We use the Game Intelligence data in our opponent analysis as well, so our coaching staff go into every match better prepared.

What impact is the club hoping for in the long term?

We want data embedded in how the club operates, not only in scouting and match reports, but as something that supports our football philosophy overall. We're not yet where we want to be. We are the first club in Slovakia to work this way, and there's still a long way to go. But that's the road we've chosen.
